Domes are sometimes referred
to as “the king of all Roofs” as they cover some
of the world’s most important buildings. Domes
are curved structures and even though there are
no angles and no corners they are among the
world’s strongest structures.
Buildings prior to the creation of Domes were
rectangular. Roofs were supported by a myriad of
columns until the “arch” was created in 100 A.
D. when the Romans rotated an arch in a circle
and realized that this created a strong
three-dimensional shape which became “the Dome”.
Domes today are made in various shapes with
Interior and Exterior implications:
- Saucer Dome – a very low dome
- Oval Dome – upper half of a sphere
- Onion Dome – more than half of a sphere
Domes moulded by National Form Inc. mirror many
architectural shapes. Multiple materials,
dependant on the application (inside or outside
or both), are utilized to create your required
result. Interior domes are generally made from
GRG to ensure a good aesthetic fit with the
finish of the interior (drywall, plaster
mouldings) and to ensure a consistent, quality
fit.
Domes manufactured for exterior applications are
produced using FRP for strength and stability as
well as protection from Mother Natures elements.
These Domes are water, rot, mildew and rodent
resistant, while offering a plethora of finishes
to satisfy even the most discerning critic. A
pre-finished Gel-Coat Dome is Uvb and Uva
protected and available in any colour you can
imagine. |
