The following statement is developed to provide a position for National Form Inc. regarding the LEED program in Canada – as developed by the Canadian Green Building Corporation (CaGBC).

The LEED program has a point rating system (0-70) which, once assessed, determines the level of compliance (Certified 26-32), (Silver 33-38), (Gold 39-51), Platinum (52-70), for the building design. There are 5 areas, within the point rating sytem, assessed and they are i) Sustainable Sites, ii) Water Efficiency, iii)Energy & Atmosphere, iv) Materials & Resources, v) Indoor Environmental Quality and vi) Innovation and Design process.

Manufacturers, like National Form, contributing construction components to a building are not eligible for a LEED rating (Certified, Silver, Gold, Platinum).

There are 4 sections of the assessment in which National Form might be viewed as a contributor to the design of the building:

  1. Materials & Resources – Credit 4.1 – Recycled Content @ 7.5%
National Form does not use recycled materials to manufacture any products. We are responsible to these requirements in that we recycle the water used in the process.

  2. Materials & Resources – Credit 4.2 – Recycled Content @ 15%
    As Above

  3. Materials & Resources – Credit 8.0 – Durable Building
National Form could provide sizeable benefits in this rating dependant on the materials designed into the building as the intention here is to minimize materials usage as well as to assess strategies to minimize premature deterioration of materials designed into the building.

  4. Innovation in Design – Credit 1.0 – Innovation in Design
This is a bonus point area where strategies involving acoustical performance and lifecycle analysis of materials chosen are assessed. National Form could be a major contributor based on the material applications.

National Form would be delighted to discuss our participation in a project involving a LEED assessment by providing our ideas where improvements in materials could be made to enhance the Design qualification.
